Israeli police freed a man who had been shackled to the floor of his home in Rahat during a weekend search for illegal weapons. The man’s leg was chained to the floor when officers entered the residence. Preliminary findings indicate his family members tied him up due to his drug use. His brother was arrested and taken to the Rahat police station for questioning.
The rescue occurred alongside a series of other security operations across the West Bank and central Israel. On Monday, authorities announced the discovery of the body of an East Jerusalem resident in his 40s in the Wadi Rahal area near Bethlehem. Police, forensic investigators, and IDF soldiers collected evidence at the scene. The body will be transferred to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute to determine the cause of death. Initial findings suggest the incident was criminal in nature rather than terror-related.
Overnight raids in Bethlehem on Sunday night led to the arrest of a Palestinian man allegedly affiliated with Hamas. Israeli security forces also arrested two other suspects during the military activity. Officers searched the homes of the suspected operative and another resident suspected of possessing weapons. Confiscated items included a loaded hunting rifle, IDF uniforms, and various technological items. The two suspects were transferred to the Ma'ale Adumim police station and face charges for possessing illegal weapons and unauthorized military equipment.
In a separate search near Hebron on Sunday, officers arrested a man in his 30s who possessed a hunting rifle and a large amount of ammunition. Meanwhile, police and Border Police found a cache of stolen IDF weapons in Kalansuwa, a majority-Arab city in central Israel. The discovery was part of an initiative to reduce violent crime in the Arab sector. Two family members present at the site were arrested and taken for questioning.
The Kalansuwa cache included one Kalashnikov rifle, three M-16 assault rifles, eight handguns, six fragmentation grenades, two stun grenades, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and three tactical vests. A police explosives expert handled the grenades after the weapons were located. All seized items were submitted as potential evidence, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The operations spanned multiple locations, from the West Bank to central Israel. Each incident resulted in arrests and the seizure of specific equipment. The chain of events highlights the coordinated nature of the recent security sweeps.
The body in Wadi Rahal is expected to be processed at the forensic institute. The men arrested in Bethlehem and Hebron are in custody. The two individuals from Kalansuwa are being questioned. The man rescued in Rahat has been freed from his shackles.
